Desi designs a hit

It’s time to embrace your desi roots this season, add a splash of colours, a dash of crystal sequins to your plain dresses or tunics and you’re good to go. International designers are lapping up the desi tadka on their delicate patterns, as fusion undergoes a complete revamp.
If you’ve got a flair for contemporary Indian fashion, then this season’s flavour will not fail to impress you. The fusion of our desi designs, with western outfits is bringing about quite an interesting twist to couture in India and elsewhere.
It’s not uncommon to see stars like JLo and Kim Kardashian sporting tunics and dresses that have been inspired by Indian fabric and designs, but what makes this fusion so irresistible? “There is a certain life to our garments — it’s young and vibrant,” says designer Namrata G, adding, “Our designs have a fresh feel that makes them globally accepted.”
While it’s definitely exciting to be able to play with colours and experiment, it is also important to make sure to keep the designs simple and not go over the top.
Singer Riccha Paul believes that our colours and designs have “intensity as well as elegance”, she says, “It’s important to play with colour, and also match outfits with suitable jewellery.”
This innovative fashion is probably here to stay, desi designs and fabrics like hakoba, paisley and even chikankari work is being embraced in the fashion industry. Designer Seema Malhotra says, “The market is flooded with Western designs, but the Indian woman is comfortable in identifying her heritage in a contemporary manner.”

All in the name of promotions

Now if somebody is inviting Kareena Kapoor to do the inauguration of their new business, they better do good decoration. But looks like this was not the case when the actress recently made an appearance on the show Punar Vivah.
An irritated Kareena, who will soon be seen in the film Heroine, refused to take part in the promotion until the setting was spruced up. It was only after Yash aka Gurmeet Choudhry stepped in that the problem could be solved. Well, before you pass any judgments on the hottie, this was just a part of the scene that Kareena will be seen in Punar Vivah.
