DM group unveils investment plans for Kerala

Gulf-based non-resident Indian entrepreneur Dr Azad Moopen yesterday unveiled his investment plans for Kerala worth Rs21.5bn, including the ongoing projects, on the eve of Emerging Kerala Global Connect event to be held here.

The DM Healthcare, the conglomerate that he heads in India and the Gulf, will develop an array of healthcare facilities in various locations of his home state.

These projects, including super specialty hospitals, an integrated medical township and a top class medical school, are expected to be operational in five years, serving millions of people.
The group, recently recognised by the World Economic Forum as one of the 400 ‘emerging champion companies of the world’, will create 3,100 more beds in these hospitals, spread across Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.

“Kerala is a high-priority destination for our investment in India in view of the demand for advanced healthcare facilities and our already existing and proposed projects here. Also Kochi is very well connected to the world by air, road, rail and sea,” said Dr Moopen, the chairman of the group, who is a key speaker at the EK meet.

The Aster Medcity here will support the medical requirements of the state and contribute to India’s booming medical tourism.

According to him, the 40-acre Aster Medcity will be a world class hi-tech healthcare destination that integrates nature with healing.

The first phase, which is being developed with an outlay of Rs5bn, includes a 550-bed core hospital with nine centres of excellence (COEs) in various super-specialties like cardiology, orthopaedics and oncology.
