Check your Expectations.

Check your Expectations.

Are you holding back because you fear a negative outcome?

Sometimes we convince ourselves that certain goals are a waste of time, even if we really want to achieve them. Most often we have an underlying belief that we don’t have what it takes to achieve our objectives, or we fear that we might make the wrong decision and screw it up. Take a few minutes to explore your feelings about your potential for success. If you’re not feeling optimistic, work on turning that around first and you’ll notice yourself feeling more motivated the more you affirm you can do anything you set out to do.

If loving your project or task isn’t creating the warm fuzzy feelings you seek, why not try loving yourself for a change ?

Love YourSelf.

If loving your project or task isn’t creating the warm fuzzy feelings you seek, why not try loving yourself for a change? Especially if you’ve tried the drill sergeant approach and it turns out that strong-arming yourself into getting motivated just isn’t working, try loving yourself into action! Take a few minutes to admire something about yourself.

Write a list of your best attributes and skills, and affirm your ability to do a great job with your current objective.

Sometimes a little positive reinforcement goes a long way!

Houston: Record-setting Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams along with two other cosmonauts today successfully docked their Soyuz spacecraft with the International Space Station (ISS) for a four-month long stay during which they will conduct over 30 scientific missions.

Houston: Record-setting Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams along with two other cosmonauts today successfully docked their Soyuz spacecraft with the International Space Station (ISS) for a four-month long stay during which they will conduct over 30 scientific missions.

46-year-old NASA astronaut Williams, Russian Soyuz Commander Yuri Malenchenko and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency flight engineer Akihiko Hoshide arrived at the ISS after two days in orbit.

"Everything is perfect," Malenchenko radioed Russia's Mission Control Center in Korolev after docking with the space station.
Their Russian spacecraft -- Soyuz TMA-05M - docked automatically with the Rassvet module at around 10:21 IST.

The crew took off to the ISS successfully from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Sunday for a four-month long mission to the space station.

This is the second space mission for Williams. She also holds the record of the longest spaceflight -- 195 days -- for woman space travellers.

The crew which will return home in mid-November is expected to conduct over 30 scientific missions during their stay aboard the ISS.

In the space, Williams and her team of astronauts also plan an orbital sporting event to mark the Summer Olympics in London.

Williams and her crewmates will join the three others already living on the space station : commander Gennady Padalka of Russia, his cosmonaut colleague Sergei Revin, and NASA astronaut Joe Acaba, who have all been in space since May.

The six crew members will work together for about two months.

Acaba, Padalka and Revin are scheduled to return to Earth on September 17. Before they depart, Padalka will hand over command of the station and Expedition 33 to Williams.

The launch and docking of Expedition 32 coincides with the 37th anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, the first docking of an American spacecraft with a Russian spacecraft.

An Apollo spacecraft from Kennedy Space Centre and a Soyuz 7K-TM vehicle from Baikonur Cosmodrome launched on July 15, 1975, and docked two days later.

Williams and her colleagues will be aboard the station during an exceptionally busy period that includes two spacewalks, the arrival of Japanese, US commercial and Russian re-supply vehicles, and an increasingly faster pace of scientific research.

Video cameras on the exterior of the space station captured spectacular views of the Soyuz pulling up to the orbiting lab with the bright blue Earth in the background.

Williams lived and worked aboard the International Space Station for six months in 2006. Williams, whose father hails from Gujarat, was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 1998.

She was assigned to the International Space Station as a member of Expedition 14 and then joined Expedition 15. She received a master's degree from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1995.

"I'm just looking forward to seeing the full capability of the space station, it's an experiment, not only the things that were doing inside but also all the engineering that has gone into allowing us to dock new vehicles, do space walks, Russian and US.
So, it's a pretty complicated vehicle now and I'm looking forward to being part of it," Williams said recently.

Meanwhile, in orbit high above the Earth, Expedition 32 Flight Engineer Joe Acaba focused on cleaning the exhaust and intake ducts of the Starboard Crew Quarters yesterday to prepare them for the arrival of new crewmates, NASA said.

Give YourSelf a nice Reward

886

Make a promise to yourself that you can have a reward when you reach a certain point in your objectives.

Make the reward something you’ll really enjoy, like a new DVD or CD, or a new journal. It doesn’t have to be expensive either, it can be as simple as a few hours to relax and do something you love.

However, be sure to follow through and really give yourself the reward when you complete what you set out to do! Don’t fool yourself into believing it was just a trick to get you moving; your mind will remember that little deception next time.

Career in South African Airlines

806

At this site you can research careers in the Airline industry worldwide, and specifically South Africa. We provide reference material for various aviation careers and links to other informative sites and documents.
ob Title: Cadet pilot training

Do you have what it takes to become a pilot?

The sky is the limit with South African Airways’ Pilot Training Programme…

As part of our transformation process; South African Airways is in the process of recruiting young people to join its commercial pilot training programme.

Every year South African Airways embarks on a search for new recruits to enter the Cadet Pilot Training Programme. While the group of cadets will be wholly representative of South Africa’s diverse population, the main focus is to open doors to a career that was historically closed to previously disadvantaged individuals.

SAA pilots, both new and qualified, have a reputation of being among the best trained in the world. New pilots would be expected to uphold the stringent standards that have made South African Airways one of the safest airlines in the world.

It is for this reason that the applicants go through a thorough scientific selection process. The aim of the selection process is to select candidates for the training programme who will be efficient and safe pilots for South African Airways and can be eligible for Flight Operations’ management positions.
South African Airways is selecting the cream of the crop in our endeavour to go above and beyond.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Some basic requirements must be met before the selection and training programme can commence. Acceptance into the programme will depend on the following 11 factors:

* Matric Certificate/Grade 12/N3 or relevant qualification (SAQA accredited) * Compulsory Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English, coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) * South African citizen * Preferably up to 25 years of age * At least 1.60 metres tall * Medically fit * Prepared to undergo vigorous training (free of charge) for up to two years * Prepared to sign a training bond * Pass a security check * Previous flying experience is not a pre-requisite. If you have flying experience, you should not have more than 60 flying hours * Should you have made 3 unsuccessful applications before, your current application will not be considered
SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants will go through a selection process, consisting of seven phases:

* Pre-screening on application * Psychometric testing * Flight Grading * Medical examination * Assessment and Clinical Interview * Panel interview
TRAINING

The training programme is totally free of charge, but all cadets will have to sign a training bond. The training programme entails the following:

Preparation Training
This part of the course takes place over months. It consists of modules, comprising:

1. Technical Training 2. Aviation Medicine
Exams will be written on all modules and the pass mark is 75% for all exams. Cadets will also be assessed individually in terms of their leadership and motivation after each module. The cadets are accommodated at appropriate venues conducive to training. Each cadet has his/her own bedroom. All transport, meals, accommodation and study material are provided as required, and recreational activities are provided over certain weekends.

Flying Training
Ground school

* Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence theory and exams. * Additional courses in airline flight operations, airline-orientated management, training in leadership and judgement, crew resource management, social and flight-deck etiquette and technical report writing. * Aviation related research projects, 2 per cadet.
Flight training
The flight-training phase will cover 210 hours in aircraft and 60 hours of flight simulator.

* Each cadet will fly a single-engine basic training airplane, progress to more advanced, single-engine airplanes for instrument flight and navigation. * Each cadet will also do 5 hours of aerobatic training. * Finally the last 45 hours of instrument training will be done on a twin-engine airplane, followed by a skill test. * The cadet will then move to a generic simulator, to learn airline-type operating procedures. * This section will encompass 15 lessons of 4 hours each.
The cadet will then become familiar with the duties of the co-pilot, as well as checklist philosophy and crew coordination. After 18 months of flight training, the cadet will graduate with a South African Commercial Pilot’s Licence, with Instrument Rating and Frozen Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence.
Trophies will be awarded to cadets who excel in flying as well as in theory.

While in training, the cadets are accommodated on the college campus, and are required to remain on campus at all times, including weekends.
Internship Training

To facilitate an easier transition onto the South African Airways aircraft, South African Airways has entered into an agreement with SA Airlink, SA Express and Solenta Aviation. The cadets will fly the J41, Dash 8, B1900, ATR 42, C208 and Twin Otters, as cadet first officers at these airlines, for a minimum of 24 months, whereafter they may be eligible to join South African Airways with a total of ± 1500 flying hours. The J41 is a 29-seater mini-airliner and the crew consists of a captain, co-pilot and air hostess. SA Express is also a partner airline flying the De Havilland Dash 8, which is a 40-50 seater airplane and consists of a captain, co-pilot and 2 cabin attendants. The B1900 is a mini-airliner and seats 19 people. The ATR 42 falls in the same class as the Dash 8 whilst the Cessna 208 is a smaller aircraft being utilized on scheduled freight services by Solenta.

South African Airways

After completing the Internship Phase, all successful cadets will be subject to a selection board once again. Those found suitable will be offered a position as first officers (co-pilots) with South African Airways. If a cadet pilot is turned down by South African Airways at this stage, he/she is under no obligation to pay back any of the training costs. This cadet is then free to approach other airlines for a job if so desired. However, the cadet will have to pay back the training costs if he/she is offered a position with South African Airways and turns it down.

The cadets will start with South African Airways as fully-fledged second officers.
The typical career path will be as follows:

* second officers on the long-haul fleet, * first officers on the short-haul fleet, * senior first officers on the long-haul fleet, * captain on the short-haul fleet, * and eventually captain on the long-haul fleet, * Pilots can also move into training captain and managerial positions whilst still flying actively. Candidates for training captain and managerial appointments are selected from applicants for these various positions.
The airline pilot has numerous benefits, such as:

* good medical benefits * pension * local * international travel * additional exciting job opportunities.
The airline pilot enjoys a demanding but challenging career in a professional environment. A high degree of job satisfaction is experienced commensurate with a high level of remuneration and a comfortable lifestyle.

Why Work Here ?

Air New Zealand has a great culture shaped by a diverse, passionate and skilled workforce; it's our people who make us what we are. There are a number of different career paths to apply your skills and experience - the sky's the limit, literally! Our people are our future so we invest in and develop our staff to reach their true potential.

With our core values and culture emulated through our employee's, you really get a great sense of empowerment not usually found in a large corporate environment. For us, it's all about the customer journey and delivering the best travel experience, from the initial booking to arriving at the Airport and boarding the flight, we aim to deliver a seamless experience - we work together across the network to deliver excellence through innovation and world class service.

If you have a passion for the Airline industry and want to work for a world leader then you can't go past Air New Zealand, it will be the best career decision you ever made.

Culture
Few organisations impact upon the country like Air New Zealand. We are very aware that each individual contribution is doing more than strengthening the reputation of Air New Zealand, it's strengthening the reputation of New Zealand as a tourist destination.

In a time when there is constant pressure on costs, we stay ahead of the game by employing people who share our passion for excellence, our vision for the future, and who have the right attitude.

A Coaching Culture
At all levels within Air New Zealand you'll find very talented people, but key to us achieving all we are capable of is realising and releasing the potential of all staff. By empowering our people and ensuring that there is 100% commitment to the business plan, customer service values, and our people principles, we will reach our collective potential.

Each manager needs to be a coach for his or her team members, for giving constructive feedback, and for managing the performance review process. As important, however is the creation of a culture where people are comfortable sharing skills and experience. Whilst training courses have value, recent research is telling us that people work better and perform to a higher level when they are coached well.

Developing Strong Leaders
We empower our people to take responsibility and make decisions which impact upon our customers, often in pressurised situations and with limited resources. Such decision making builds genuine character and with an understanding of the commercial and operational implications, it can often provide the building blocks for a career in leadership.

A Business Driven by Strong Leaders
Wherever you look within Air New Zealand, you'll find people who aren't just good at what they do, but who also have the business knowledge and leadership skills to drive our business forward. The airline business is exceptionally dynamic, hence change is constant and managers need to be flexible, proactive, creative and accountable. On top of the business requirement for strong leadership, Air New Zealand needs people managers who coach, develop and use all the skills and capabilities that our employees possess.

Our aim is to ensure every person feels involved, recognised, and genuinely valued as part of our business.

A Long Term Perspective - but a High Priority
Development takes time. The goals you set and the actions you take are unlikely to result in dramatic change in the short term, which is why It's important to set goals that are challenging but achievable, and which leave you with enough energy and time to enjoy your life away from work!

We encourage our people not to let their development slide to the bottom of the priority pile, thus ensuring that you grow within your role and feel valued within the business. We aim to make your development a top priority - so that everyone benefits.

Visualize the end results

We usually avoid working hard or pushing ourselves just for the sake of doing so, but if you focus on a positive benefit to completing your tasks you’ll feel more inclined to work on them. Set aside 10 minutes before you begin and imagine how you’ll feel when the job is done. Allow yourself to feel the feelings you’ll experience when you’ve accomplished what you set out to do – whether it’s satisfaction, pride, happiness, excitement, or simple relief. This gets the good feelings flowing and motivates you to do what it takes to create that experience “for real.”

Happy Landings ..........
